DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF A DEEP SEA MINING BUFFER SYSTEM
A numerical representation of the deep sea mining buffer system with sea pipe string and a surface ship is presented and the solution procedure for the corresponding differential equation of motion is developed. Effect of the mass that represents the ballasting buffer system attached to the pipe and the stiffness of the pipe string in relevant motion of the system are investigated. Specific characteristics of the system obtained through modification provide proper design guidelines for the system. Based on the analysis and simulations, basic designing guidelines for the deep sea mining buffer system are obtained.
The results can be useful in the early stage of designing pipe string and the buffer system in ocean development.
