AN ASSESSMENT OF USAGE OF SELECTED INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS IN MATHEMATICS INSTRUCTION AMONG BASIC SCHOOL TEACHERS IN LAGOS STATE, NIGERIA
Mathematics is relevant in day to day living as well as in every human endeavour. The subject could be effectively taught at the basic school, only when relevant instructional materials are used. This study was therefore carried out to examine the provision and the level of usage of some of those materials in basic private schools in Lagos state, Nigeria. Five hundred and twenty (520) private basic school teachers were served the questionnaires. Four hundred and sixty two (462) responded to the questionnaire. The information collected was analysed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, standard deviation and t-test analysis. The findings showed that most instructional materials-available were the ones that could be acquired at little or no cost. Female’s mean level of usage of the available materials is higher compared to that of their male counterparts. Relevant recommendations were made based on the findings of the study.
