DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF VIBRATING SCREENS - A CASE STUDY

Abstract: Vibrating screens have been extensively used in grading materials and in the coal industry. The service life of vibrating screens is important for reducing the cost of production and increasing productivity. A numerical model of the screen was considered herein for studying its dynamic behavior under certain boundary conditions. The applied loads were based on in situ measurements of kinematic variables (e.g., displacement, velocity or acceleration). The main goal of this study is to present an alternative and reliable methodology for predicting the stress distribution on the vibrating screen. First, one measures the vibration level of a vibrating screen under normal operation. Second, numerical simulations using Finite Element (FE) models were performed applying for instance the measured vibration levels on the FE model. Finally, the Von Misses stress levels are predicted. The main advantages of this method are twofold: reliability and cost-effectiveness. The test can be made simpler and in an ordinary quiet environment, as an adequate signal-to-noise ratio can be easily achieved.
