Abstract: The present work proposes a biomechanics and performance analysis of an electromyography (EMG) signal during the squat exercise. More specifically, the tests are made taking into consideration the different angles of knee flexion, 90 and 130. The movement is simultaneously collected with the signal-testing trough, a mathematical tool called Wavelet Transform used here in two forms: Spectra of Colors (Periodogram) and Global Wavelet Transform. The results show considerable differences between the right and left sides of the body when power and muscular performance are compared. This result leads us to believe that weight training is not enough to achieve a muscular equilibrium. It is suggested to improve results and performance on both sides neurological adaptations are necessary. In addition, it is possible to determine with precision the moment when the muscular fibers suffer more recruitment during the execution of the squat in both angles. |
