MASS-CONSISTENT WIND MODEL FOR SRI LANKA DURING THE SOUTH-WEST MONSOON
The model is developed to provide a surface wind as well as upper air wind with input wind fields that are mass-consistent, three- dimensional, and also representative of the available meteorological measurements. It interpolated three-dimensional mean winds adjusted in the weighted least square sense to satisfy the continuity equation within the region specified. The wind data is needed for climatology, simplified climate modeling, using wind energy, studying effect on plant growth and study of pollution transport. Sri Lanka is under monsoon system. Wind data is only sparsely available. Especially upper air data is not available. Hence, a model to predict winds has been constructed.
