With the potential benefit of the undergraduate (or even high school) classroom in mind, we derive explicit formulas for the expected values of the parts of random compositions of positive integers. In this context, using MAPLE for numerical visualization as well as symbolic calculations may be an added value to the task of introducing and attracting student to more advanced problems in combinatorial number theory.
