MATHEMATICS AND AFFECTIVITY: THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF A CLASS COMPETITIONBASED ON PROBLEM-SOLVING
The Transalpine Maths Rally (RMT) is a competition to which more than 6500 classes in some European countries participate. The aim of this enterprise is improving the teaching and the learning of mathematics by problem-solving. It comes true that the activities developed have positive effects on affective image of mathematics for pupils, teachers, parents and all RMT animators.
In this article, we recall some data on the anxiety related to mathematics while trying to clarify some causes. Then we present the RMT competition, its didactical aims and its links with the co-operation between pupils and between animators, as well as the scientific character of its approach with systematic collection of data and their analyses.
