STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF A SHAFT IN BENDING AND TORSION
A plate structure attached to the shaft in a floating wave power-generating system gives bending loads to the shaft. Torsion loads are produced in the shaft during the power-generating process. The shaft needs to withstand the resistance that results from both bending and torsion. In this paper, we investigate structural safety of the shaft in bending and torsion loads by using finite element method. Finite element modeling and relevant analysis of the structures are presented using ANSYS code. Proper ways to apply boundary conditions for successful simulation of structural members are presented followed by the finite element analysis of the shaft structure. It is found that the shaft structure is safe in bending and torsion loads under certain conditions.
