NUMERICAL SOLUTION OF DAMBREAK PROBLEM COUPLING AN IMPLICIT FINITE VOLUME METHOD AND EXPLICIT VOLUME-OF-FLUID METHOD
An implicit-explicit scheme coupling method to solve a two-phase flow field is presented. Usually either full explicit or full implicit time scheme is used to solve both the momentum and the interface equations. But, in this study, we propose to solve momentum equations with implicit time scheme which may use a large time step, while an explicit time split scheme which requires a small time step, is used for the volume fraction equation. Thus, the computational time is relatively reduced in comparison with classical approach where both equations are solved using either full explicit or full implicit method. In addition, we proposed a method that conserves the volume fraction. Computational results presented for dambreak and sloshing tank problems are shown to be in good agreement with other results reported in the open literature.
