HYDRODYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF ADDITIONAL EFFECT OF SUBMARINE APPENDAGES
Ship appendages are the parts that cannot be separated from the construction of a submarine. The submarine parts are sail, rudder, fore hydroplane and aft hydroplane. These parts are placed on bare hull, which is the main component of the submarine. Interference between the parts will influence significantly to hydrodynamic components of the submarine. One of the components is resistance that is influenced by the position, shape and location of appendages. The problem is how the influence of components interference of these appendages. The resistance of each component and the influences between them were calculated by numerical method using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. The results show that the resistance of appendages gives significant effects: effect of sail is 51.572%, fore hydroplane is 18.872%, aft hydroplane is 4.216%, rudder is 4.152%, and the total appendage is 78.812% of the drag force of the bare hull.
