Abstract: Siltation in approach channels is considered important to be managed as it makes a lot of problems in the navigation approach channels. For carrying out the required technical and feasibility studies effectively, management of the collected environmental data is highly required. In this research, a simplified tool is provided to carry out such management. This tool consists of a database and a controlling program. This tool is able to manage the common measured environmental data related to siltation problems (tides, waves, currents, suspended load concentration, surface soil samples and wind). It is also able to provide seasons and the associated years for the time series of data intersection. This option provides a good base for the compulsory engineering studies to solve the problem.
Besides, preliminary correlation analysis (strength and direction) is carried out using this tool in order to determine the correlation strength and direction between two sets of time series data, which have the same measuring date and time. Also, it provides the possibility for preliminary calculations for siltation trapping efficiency factor and thus a rough estimate for the siltation thickness in a certain section of the channel, based on the soil characteristics and current velocity on the berm. These siltation calculations are carried out based on the well established Van Rijn [14]’s approach. |
