Many formulae were developed for the purpose of evaluation of sediments infilling of the navigation channels in the maritime environment. These formulae came via empirical, analytical or predictive mathematical/ numerical models or via a combination for the results of some of them. This technical communication paper discusses, in brief, the applicability of these formulae, trying to focus on the points, in need, to be developed and improved for each one, separately. This comparative study comes as a preliminary step towards developing a collective and simplified methodology to be applied in a simple attitude by both professional and green horn coastal engineers through some suggested simplified criteria.
