Abstract: Experimental and
computational analyses of turbulent flow of air were conducted to study the flow
characteristics in a rectangular duct equipped with two detached ribs and
subjected to adverse pressure gradient, containing two detached ribs.
Measurements were carried out in a duct whose upper wall inclination angle was
7.6 deg. The detached ribs are arranged in-line close to the lower wall with
clearance-to-rib height ratio, rib-to-duct
height ratio, and
pitch-to-rib height ratio, The
experimental results of flow behaviour in the duct with and without ribs were
obtained. These results were compared to the numerical results using the
Re-Normalization group k-e turbulent model (RNG k-e). Reasonable agreement was
found between the simulations and experimental data. The flow simulation was
able to capture the major features of the flow with larger regions of
circulating flow behind the ribs.
