SOLVING BRACHISTOCHRONE PROBLEM USING LEGENDRE CARDINAL FUNCTIONS

Abstract:
A numerical technique for solving the brachistochrone problem is presented. The problem is solved using the Legendre cardinal functions. An operational matrix of integration is introduced and is utilized to reduce the problem to the solution of algebraic equations. From the computational viewpoint, the solutions obtained by this method are in excellent agreement with those obtained by previous works and efficient to use. Some examples are also given to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the presented technique. The method is general, easy to implement, and yields very accurate results with few computations.
