Abstract: The efficiency of the new type breakwater, which consists of caissons supporting on the two rows of large spaced piles is experimentally and theoretically studied. The theoretical breakwater efficiency is calculated using the Eigenfunction Expansion Method and compared with the experimental data. The efficiency of the breakwater is presented as a function of the transmission, the reflection and the wave energy loss coefficients for different wave and structure parameters. The results indicate that the proposed theoretical model overestimates the transmission and reflection coefficients by about 5 to 15%. The efficiency of the proposed breakwater becomes high as the breakwater width is more than 0.2 of the wave length and the breakwater draft is more than 0.4 of water depth. In addition, the proposed breakwater helps in dissipating about 5 to 25 % from the incident wave energy. |
