Abstract: This paper describes a finite difference approximation
which has second order accuracy for arbitrary Reynolds numbers. The numerical
scheme derived here is used to study the lid-driven cavity flow problem at
Reynolds numbers in the range The result
of computations is compared with several well-known studies in the literature
which include Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) that have been recently
reported. It is demonstrated that the present numerical scheme is capable of
reproducing the flow structure reported by DNS for
