PHYSICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF BATIÉ SAND (WEST-CAMEROON) AND ITS CORRECTION: CASE STUDY OF MOUNT METCHOU

Abstract: Mount Metchou situated in the Batié locality constitutes enormous mantles of alteration developed on granitic basement. The thickness of products of alteration is considerable to an extent that along the profiles, the arena constitutes the most developed horizon. The great potential of this arena has permitted its exploitation as a sandpit with product largely used in the achievement of civil engineering works in the locality and its neighboring regions. Geological studies of Mount Metchou show constituted profile from bottom to top of a lower isalteritic assemblage, of a median alloteritic assemblage and of an upper soft assemblage. The physical characterization of materials obtained from the two exploited horizons of the profile was done. The results obtained showed that in as much as the washed sand is of acceptable purity for the formation of concrete, their grain size distribution is, however, less good. In order to obtain the best compressive strength of concrete made of using the materials studied, it necessitates correction. In the present work, proposals for improving on the quality of the studied materials for their use as concrete sand have been elaborated. |
