This paper gives a generalized definition for memetic algorithm, and introduces a new crossover for memetic algorithm which is local search enabled, namely Two Point Single Offspring Crossover (TPSOC). This crossover considers a male and a female chromosomes and mates together to form the best child chromosome. This crossover favors local search by finding out the inherent properties exhibited by individual chromosomes participating in the crossover. This is found to be more suitable for certain type of problems in the optimization point of view. The convergence of this crossover is tested using standard test bed functions.
