Therefore, the affinity of ²¹⁰Po for POC appeared greater than that of ²³⁴Th. We suggest that POC and organisms such as phytoplankton played an important role in controlling the scavenging of ²¹⁰Po and ²³⁴Th in this region of the ocean.

SCAVENGING OF ²¹⁰Po AND ²³⁴Th BY PARTICULATE ORGANIC CARBON IN THE SURFACE LAYER OF THE NORTHWESTERN NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN

Abstract:
We investigated the distributions of ²¹⁰Po and ²³⁴Th in the surface layer of the northwestern North Pacific Ocean . The activities of the two radioisotopes adsorbed on particulate organic carbon (POC) and the concentrations of chlorophyll a and POC followed a significant logarithmic relationship
