Abstract: In this paper, pure titanium carbide was obtained after
about 2h by mechanical alloying starting from elemental Ti and C powders, using
a planetary ball mill, under optimum alloying conditions corresponding to 5.19
W/g shock power. The diffraction crystallite size (DCS) reached a critical value
of 6 nm after 20h. At this same alloying duration, SEM characterization revealed
that the powders exhibited homogeneous distribution of the particles with about
in size.
Keywords and phrases: mechanical alloying, nanocrystalline titanium carbide.
