Abstract: In this work, the processing, structures, magnetic properties and
theoretical/numerical models of exchange coupled nanocomposite materials with
permanent magnetism are reviewed. The systems considered included: Rare Earth
(RE)-Iron-Boron-based alloys and magnets, for which the composite structure
comprises the magnetically hard phase intermixed with one or more
magnetically soft phases; Sm-Co alloys, nanoscale
FePt/a-Fe
thin films, core-shell type structures of transition metal compounds surrounded
by oxides involving exchange coupling between ferromagnetic and
antiferromagnetic phases, and mechanically alloyed materials. Analysis of
present achievements and future developments are also elucidated.
Keywords and phrases: permanent magnets, magnetic nanocomposites, high coercivity materials.
