HOME MEDIA ACCESS' RELATIONSHIP WITH ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
With the increasing access to media in the homes of high school students, the relationship of this access to academic achievement is important. Ninety students at a large urban high school were asked whether they had internet access at home or in their bedroom, and whether there was a television in their bedroom. Using grade point average (g.p.a) as an estimate of academic achievement, independent t?tests were conducted to compare the intact groups revealed by the survey. No relationship was found between internet access and g.p.a. However, students who did not have a television in their bedroom had a statistically significant higher g.p.a than those who did. Further research on the television influence on academic performance is needed.
