THE BEHAVIOR OF TRANSACTIONS SUCCESS RATIO IN FIRM REAL-TIME DATABASE SYSTEMS

Abstract:
In real-time database systems (RTDBSs), it is difficult to satisfy both timing constraints (temporal consistency) and logical consistency of the database. The performance criterion generally used in these systems is then the transactions success ratio (Number of transactions which have met their deadlines over the total of submitted transactions). In this paper, we present a firm RTDBS success ratio analysis where we study the influence of the scheduling policies and the database workload on the system performances under two main concurrency control protocols. For this purpose, we have designed and implemented an RTDBS simulator with some components being stochastic, in order to carry out Monte Carlo simulations. This study enabled us to describe the complete behavior of the transactions success ratio. Moreover, we give a mean for the automatic choice of the underlying parameters of the system.
