LAGRANGIAN STRUCTURE FUNCTION FOR THE SPECTRAL SHALLOW WATER MODEL

P. Sangapate (Thailand) and D. Sukawat (Thailand)

Received June 9, 2008

Abstract
In this paper, predictability of the spectral shallow water model is investigated using the Lagrangian Structure Function. The Lagrangian Structure Functions of the spectral truncation T42 and T63 are calculated. The results indicate that the spectral truncation T63 has longer predictability time than the spectral truncation T42 and the Lagrangian structure function gives predictability time similar to the finite size Lyapunov exponent. In addition, new theory will be presented.

Keywords and phrases: Lagrangian structure function, spectral shallow water model, predictability time.
