APPROACHING FOR DETERMINING THE DEPTH TO A BURIED PIPE USING MAGNETIC TOOL
Taha Rabeh (Egypt) and J. Miranda (Portugal)
Abstract:
The depth to the near-surface magnetic buried pipeline of concrete mixed with iron bars was estimated using two Proton magnetometers. One instrument was used as a fixed base station and the other used to measure the observed magnetic field along parallel profiles crossing the elongation of the buried bodies. The main target of this work is to prove the capability of the magnetic tool in the detection of the near surface buried bodies as well as the depth to the basement rocks. In this respect, two pipe models have been used in the study. The first model was placed in a homogenous magnetic field at Misallat geomagnetic Observatory and the other was already constructed along Matruh-Siwa high way. The constructed magnetic anomalies maps were corrected for the analysis process. The two modeled anomalies were interpreted using 2.5D magnetic model, Euler and Werner deconvolutions. The results give a well matching with the calculated depth parameter. Furthermore, a new approach for determining the depth of magnetic anomalies was installed. This method is depending on the amplitude and width of the magnetic anomaly. The application of this method shows that it produces good results in determining the depth of the magnetic anomalies. These results were confirmed by drilled wells and the calculated depth parameters of the modeled pipes.
