Received July 17, 2007; Revised October 10, 2007

Abstract
Mathematical morphology is a powerful tool for image processing and analysis of binary, grayscale and colour images. Fuzzy set theory was used to extend the binary to the grayscale morphology. In this paper, intuitionistic fuzzy morphological operators are defined and an algorithm is developed to the grayscale images. The mechanism behind the development is fuzzification and defuzzification. The proposed system is tested with a model image.

Keywords and phrases: intuitionistic fuzzy sets, intuitionistic fuzzy sets of second type, mathematical morphology, dilation, erosion.
