UNBALANCE AND GEAR MESH EFFECTS ON THE DYNAMIC BEHAVIOUR OF A HYDRODYNAMIC JOURNAL BEARING

Abstract:
The use of hydrodynamic journal bearings supporting geared rotor in a power transmission system requires a consideration of the effect of external loads applied to the journal. In this paper, the effect of unbalance and gear mesh forces on the dynamic behaviour of a hydrodynamic journal bearings-rotor is investigated. The rotor is driven by a motor torque, which is transferred to a load through rigid shafts and spur gears pair. Reynolds’ equation is obtained by considering the effect of mass transfer across the oil film. This is discretized by means of the finite difference method and solved numerically. The hydrodynamic forces are calculated by integrating the oil pressure distribution. The oil film elasticity is modeled by the stiffness and damping matrices. The motion equations have been established for the bearings-rotor system and simulated with Newmark method. The influence of the bearings-rotor parameters on the relative eccentricity and the instantaneous state of the journal centre is studied.
