NONPARAMETRIC METHODS FOR THE COMPARISON OF TWO TECHNIQUES OF SURGICAL OPERATION TO REPAIR ABDOMINAL AORTIC ANEURYSMS
The present work has the primary aim of comparing two techniques of surgical operation to repair abdominal aortic aneurysm, OR (Open Repair) and EVAR (EndoVascular Aneurysm Repair) and the secondary aim of separately analyzing the performances of the two techniques in the period of follow up, in terms of mortality and postoperative complications. As regards the immediate results, the analysis showed that there were not significant associations between the type of operation (OR and EVAR) and the presence of postoperative common complications, even if we must specify that initial patients situations were significantly different in the two groups in terms of risk and demographic factors, with a worst situation for patients treated with EVAR. In terms of costs EVAR results much more expensive than OR technique. Finally, regarding the performances in the follow up period, the two techniques do not differ significantly in terms of total mortality, besides separately analyzing the two groups in terms of postoperative complications we could observe a very similar situation, with a very low occurrence of complications for both groups.
