Objective: This study aimed to determine the trend and pattern of dengue serotypes in the state of Selangor.
Methods: Weekly data of dengue cases were compiled between the year 2013 and 2016. These datasets were then converted into yearly unit and being used in this study. Selangor state was selected as the study area since the districts in the state were ranked as the top dengue hotspot areas in Malaysia. This study explores the trend of dengue serotypes and dengue cases with few demographic factors such as age, gender and district using descriptive statistics shown by the graphs plotted.
Results: Our findings indicate that DEN-1 was the predominant serotypes in Selangor for the first three years and followed by DEN-3.
Discussion: Dengue is still the main public health concern in Malaysia. The distribution of dengue serotype plays an important role in any outbreak in the future where the results of this virus serotype may also differ. These results help health authority implement more affective epidemiologic control measures in order to predict the dengue serotype trend in the future.
